Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to explore the English lexical collocation found in the five movie hits of the year 2012, using Lewis (2000)’s seven lexical collocation patterns as a major research framework. Initially, each movies script file was analyzed by using a concordance program called ‘WordSmith Tools Version 6’ to find out the top five lexical words appearing on the list. Then, these words were selected for the analysis of the concordance lines to identify their partnerships. The obtained results demonstrated that the ‘V+N’ collocation occurred most frequently (72.23%), followed by the ‘V+Adv.’ (12,27%), and the ‘Adj.+N’ (7.96%), respectively. In addition, within the ‘V+N’ category, the lexical verbs showed a great tendency of having a noun clause as their collocation partners. The results obtained ultimately served as a starting point for materials preparation and development for the Communicative English Course offered at Buriram Rajabhat University.
